Why GPT-5.6 Sol Isn’t as Token-Efficient as Advertised or as You Expected

PS: I used 2.5B of token today which is like a week before.

Here’s my guess:

Older models looked cheaper because they stopped early, missed edge cases, or assumed a problem was solved when it actually wasn’t. They were like interns who oversimplify everything and fail to recognize the real problem.

GPT-5.6 Sol often uses more tokens not because it failed to improve, but because it investigates more deeply, checks more dependencies, and actually does more work before declaring the task complete.

Tried Copilot Pro+ with Fable 5, feels like 20% per complicated fix for almost an hour. But the good thing is Copilot now offering a discount. I might upgrade it to max and get another reset lol for 60% of price.( $60 for $100 max plan now)

5 observations from the Guangzhou Cursor event vs. the first China Cursor community meetup:
1. The audience has gone much more mainstream. Way more people in their 40s–50s+ showed up this time.

3. “A thousand Hamlets…” but most of them are just cloning Codex-style agent GUIs. The copycat density is getting ridiculous.
