Few college football games have provided as many heroic moments, pivotal turn of events and sheer drama as what happened 27 years ago today when @AlabamaFTBL went into Gainesville and shocked the No. 3-ranked Florida Gators, 40-39, in overtime on Oct. 2, 1999.
For the heroic performances look no further than Alabama’s Shaun Alexander who led the Crimson Tide with four touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving, and Florida’s Darrell Jackson who caught three touchdowns.
For the pivotal turn of events a fumble on a punt return late in the game by Jackson allowed Alabama to tie the game and force overtime.
For the sheer drama Florida place-kicker Jeff Chandler missed an extra-point attempt in overtime opening the door for the Crimson Tide. After Alabama scored a touchdown on a run by Alexander, Chris Kemp also missed his extra-point attempt.
But then the penalty flag dropped.
Florida’s Bennie Alexander had jumped offsides and allowed Kemp a second chance to amend for his errant kick. This time Kemp delivered as Alabama snapped Florida’s 30-game home winning streak in The Swamp.
Alexander rushed for 106 yards and scored on runs of 1, 13 and 25 yards. He also caught four passes for 94 yards which included a 47-yard touchdown reception from Andrew Zow in the third quarter.
Sunday Evening in Tuscaloosa
This is awesome stuff — on Sunday evening, just one day after beating South Carolina on the road and on the first day of the bye week, several Alabama players — including Ty Simpson, Wilkin Formby, Germie Bernard, Tim Kennan, Isaiah Horton and more — gathered in the North End Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium for an event called “Audience of One,” where they shared their testimonies with nearly 2,000 people.
I’ve covered a lot of teams at UA, but I’ve never been around a group that shares their faith in Christ in so many different ways. ❤️
I was told this was Germie Bernard’s vision

We live in two different Americas. Today millions of us will head to college football tailgates, where we will spend all day with friends & family. On the other side millions of losers will waste a perfect fall Saturday protesting Trump. Choose your life path wisely, kids.

This run isn’t even close to that one to the championship game (yet). Premature and innacurate.
