@martinwolf_ UK trade performance has been dire for years if not. decades. It’s why so many of ‘our’ businesses are foreign owned. Free trade is good but when it’s unfair or handicapped by domestic policies it’s bad. Trump has many faults but he has worked this out and Starmer hasn’t a clue.
@MartinSLewis Two points
How many ‘repaid’ losses and were not prosecuted?
Secondly an academic point - why is it that otherwise good people do terrible things within big organisations that they’d never contemplate elsewhere?
No issue with electric vehicles but can anyone explain why it’s a good idea to subsidise wealthy people to buy something much of which comes from China?
@RevRichardColes By understanding that it will never be just one thing. The tricky bit is ranking the most important factors. Usually government policy plays a minor part but then which straw does break the camel’s back?
@AutoPap Depends whether you want to look at the issue more carefully. Scrapping cars every 12 years means a lot of fossil fuel use to make new ones. Driving a Marina probably still not great though.
@EvokeClassics This was a research vehicle with the front modified in an attempt to protect pedestrians who would be ‘caught’ by the bar. Apparently it didn’t work when tested. I sometimes wonder if it was more about gaining cheap publicity for the brand.
@bobbyllew Surely if they work 7-10 years in advance a small change in a small market will have little if any effect? Wealthy people who can afford new cars will still buy electric if they can.
@afneil In July gas provided 30% of our electricity considerably less than solar and wind combined. It shows we still need gas and it would be so much better if it didn’t come from abroad.
@GreenpeaceUK@Greenpeace Would you prefer that we use diesel powered tankers to transport oil and gas half way around the world while we transition to renewables? I suppose an alternative might be to switch off all non-essential computers and servers and ban any travel that’s not on bare feet.
@FergiesRightRef@fiagirly Penalties are not based on consequences. They are based on right and wrong. In racing Hamilton had every right to have a go and as the guy on the outside Perez was the only one with a choice.
@SkySportsF1 Obvious point. How was Hamilton even able to challenge someone driving a much faster car? Perez had made a mistake and was trying to avoid the consequences
