Generational opportunity —
A friend of mine’s father runs a multi-generational glass restoration business.
It’s a neat business and he makes a good living. But the business is hard and the kids don’t want to inherit it.
Dad is approaching retirement age, and hasn’t prepared for this reality at all.
Ultimately, the business will need to be sold or it will shutter.
This isn’t uncommon. As the Baby Boomers approach retirement age, there is *trillions* of dollars in wealth facing this same reality.
Here’s the cyclical problem (read: opportunity) successful entrepreneurs in blue collar trades and boring businesses send their kids to good schools.
Those kids go off to good colleges and become white collar professionals.
As doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, they have no interest in moving home and working in the family business.
When this happens across an entire generation, you’ve got massive opportunity.
The chart below illustrates that it took approximately 15 years for the wealth transfer from the Silent Generation to the Baby Boomers to unfold.
Generation X… you’re on deck.
