Do you think the cannabis industry's obsession with THC percentages has actually made the overall quality worse?

Think about it: when dispensaries and growers started chasing those 30%+ THC numbers to put on labels, a lot of other factors got ignored. Terpene profiles suffered because high-THC plants don't always produce the most flavorful buds.

Growing techniques shifted toward maximizing tested potency rather than overall experience. Harvesting got rushed because testing happens at a specific window, even if the plant isn't truly ready. And consumers started choosing based on a single number rather than the full spectrum of what makes cannabis enjoyable and effective.

Some of the most memorable, enjoyable strains we've experienced tested in the 18-22% range but had terpene profiles that were absolutely incredible. Meanwhile, we've had 30% THC flower that was harsh, flavorless, and honestly kind of boring despite the impressive lab numbers.

The entourage effect is real, and reducing cannabis quality to a single percentage misses the entire point. But here's the thing – the market rewards high THC numbers with premium prices, so growers and breeders responded accordingly.

Have we collectively shot ourselves in the foot by making THC the only metric that matters? What's your take on this?

I miss the fact that the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam isn't around anymore. Never attended but I was always anticipating who and what won in the different categories. It definitely helped me to choose what to smoke in Amsterdam and also what seeds to grab.
