“Love Shack” is from The B-52's’s 1989 album Cosmic Thing. The quirky, upbeat dance-rock track became the band’s signature song and biggest commercial hit, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 in Australia and #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song was inspired by a real, unheated cabin in the woods outside Athens, Georgia, where Kate Pierson and the band threw legendary parties.
The track's creation was a triumphant moment for the band, as it was their first major hit following the death of founding guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1985. The song's most famous moment, Kate Pierson's improvised line "Tin roof... rusted!", almost didn't make the final cut, and the music video notably featured an early cameo by a pre-fame RuPaul.
