@Plaistovian I believe those ubiquitous "close allies of Burnham" have ruled Jones out for his Mandelson texts. But agreed it's madness to put someone so inexperienced as Chancellor - let alone expect the PM to be able to micromanage them, which is what seems to be the plan.
@AnsellEade Do you think mahmood is a credible alternative? I'm finding her working closely with burnham hard to imagine. Not to mention how embarrassing this will be Ed after his Jackdaw comments.
@danbloom1 What do you think personally Dan? I think with Jones there's a compelling frame of Burnham ousting Starmerism, but I just don't see how actually entering a contest like this is in Jones' best interest.
@JonHollis9 When do you think he'll set a resignation date for, if it is a timetable? He probably prefers 1st Sep, after recess. Recess kinda complicates things
@forwardnotback What do you think timescale will be? Presumably Starmer wants to stay until 1st September, but if a contest did arise then it would be very awkward for conference. Burnham presumably wants to be in around the start of recess, and that means a timetable of like a week..
@hardinpol@GBPolitcs carns isnt well liked, and a 3way contest would be worse for a starmer thna a starmer-burnham one - starmer's vote share is humiliatingly lower and it also reduces his chance of winning (already like 5% or less...)
@hardinpol@GBPolitcs wes is very weak, he's not in position to make demands. main way he gets in is by starting contest to prevent Andy looking like assassin, but probably wont be necessary. cxd could actually be a poison chalice under burnham, thats why mahmood doesnt want it.
