Watching this video, I am filled with overwhelming anger and shame. Shame that in this country, “the land of the free,” people can be stripped of their dignity and treated with such profound cruelty at the stroke of a pen.

The Trump administration stripped some 300,000 Haitians of their legal status overnight. Many of these people have spent decades building their lives in the United States, and now they’re being branded with a tracking device that restricts their movement without ICE permission. It is humiliating. It is dehumanizing. And it is cruel.

The State Department’s own July advisory places Haiti at Level 4, warning Americans not to travel there due to widespread violent crime, kidnapping, and collapsed law enforcement capacity. But Haitians are now being forced to upend their lives and return to a country the U.S. government itself warns Americans not to visit.

The hypocrisy at the heart of this policy is as staggering as its cruelty.

The Washington Post reports that an Iranian assassination threat prompted a secret presidential extraction from Turkey last month, with Trump secretly transferred from the legacy Air Force One to a C-32A while the White House publicly maintained that he was aboard Air Force One.

Trump reportedly left the 747 via an airport catering truck and boarded the C-32A, which flew to Britain under the call sign “Reach 18.” The legacy Air Force One, carrying journalists and staff who believed Trump was aboard, served as a decoy and continued to Britain under the AF1 call sign.

The immediate reason was a credible Iranian threat against Trump or his aircraft following renewed U.S. strikes on Iran. The new Qatari-provided 747-8 was reportedly a factor because it lacked some of the defensive countermeasures found on the legacy presidential aircraft.

The particularly notable part is that the deception extended to some White House personnel and journalists, who were not told Trump had changed aircraft.
