MONUMENTAL MARATHON

You gave me an experience I’ll never forget

& I’m grateful for it

Yesterday was NOT the day I wanted but hey…that’s the beauty of sport & competition :)

Was feeling very calm and smooth through the first 9 miles…and then nausea hit

As I took down my 3rd gel - my stomach completely rejected it and I puked up everything

From miles 10-26 I threw up another 5x - losing any bit of fuel and electrolytes I tried to take in

I’ve deduced it was a combo of a a slightly “nervous” stomach, taking too much water at once, and a gel that just didn’t sit

(Turns out Im not good at drinking water slowly whilst running fast)

From there on out it was just survival

Pace slowly dropped from 7s to 8s to 9s and even a couple 10s

The bonk was real😂

I’d go on to finish @ 3:32

Nowhere close to where I expected to be…but again…that’s competition for ya :)

Once I crossed the finish line - I found myself being escorted to the med tent

Body temp was so low they couldn’t get a blood ox reading - and just about every muscle in my lower body was cramped up😂

I emptied the tank and am proud of that

But this race chewed me up and spit me out

It gave me my first glimpse of the world of “racing” a marathon instead of just “completing” a marathon

And I can honestly say I’m hooked

I’ve had more fun in this prep then I’ve had in athletics since my wrestling days

Gonna take the next week or so to just recover

and plan out the next race

The journey to sub 3 ain’t over - it’s just gotten more interesting :)
