@drcrammd Any series of doctors visits, meds, imaging, surgeries, etc all related to the same condition. For example if you cancer and 20 visits, 3 surgeries, 10 scans, and meds…that’s all one event. You pay the first $500. The rest is sent to the Crowd for funding

@PeterKolchinsky So the goal posts have now moved. Instead of saying we are not viable you have moved on to "Well, you can't cut rates because that impacts too many people."

The entire difference in the stats you highlighted have to do with obesity. We are 30-40%% more obese than other OECD countries. That means many more preemies (and therefore much higher infant mortality) and much lower life expectancy (obese people have a 5-10 years lower life expectancy depending upon how obese they are). If we had the same obesity rates as other OECD countries we'd have one of the highest life expectancies and lowest fetal mortality rates.

You keep painting a doomsday scenario and that we are toast but you won't answer the question. What happens if prices fall by 50%? Here is the answer: healthcare would be much more accessible and much more affordable (we're pretty sure your portfolio companies reliant upon health insurance pricing probably wouldn't like that).

We accept people with type 2 diabetes immediately. Their bills are eligible immediately. Insulin, CGM, etc are being acquired at massive reductions to what health insurance pays. 25% of our country's healthcare spend is on people with diabetes. Thats where we are starting and plan to expand.

@PeterKolchinsky Thought experiment: let's assume a 35,000 employer group with the natural mix of healthy/unhealthy. Now let's assume that they are getting 50% better prices than they would under their existing insurance plan by ripping out the middleman. What happens?

Nobody that we know of has switched to health insurance after getting sick. In fact they have said "Thank God I have CrowdHealth because being sick wouldn't have caused mental health problems if I were with health insurance."

We get adverse selection through pregnancies. Given the population we have about 3X the number of pregnancies per capita than health insurance.

@PeterKolchinsky We don't deny any bills. If a member has a bill that we don't feel is eligible per the member guide they can appeal that to a voluntary group of Crowd members who make the ultimate decision.

No. If you join CrowdHealth already knowing you need a knee replacement, you can’t immediately ask the community to fund it. That would be like buying homeowners coverage after your house is already on fire.

Yes. We had a member just last month who had a child with a brain condition that has only been documented 20 times in the last 20 years. 10 of those surgeries were done by one doctor. The member chose that doctor in a different state, traveled, and got the surgery for about 30% of what health plans pay. The child is now healthy, all the bills (including travel) were funded by the community.
