We’re also looking ahead to what comes next. In another blog post published today, we introduced Mastodon’s new leadership team. Our Executive Director is Felix Hlatky (formerly, CFO of Mastodon gGmbH), who has already represented Mastodon on international stages.

We also shared an organisational update, and a fundraising update, in that blog post.

We're excited to share the results from Mastodon's first #DiscoveryWeek!

In case you missed it, earlier this year our Head of Design Imani Joy arranged a week of workshops and surveys to get to know you, learn about your needs and wants, and discover how you're using (and want to use) Mastodon.

This week was tremendously helpful for us, and we're grateful to everyone who participated.

Here's what we learned: https://t.co/hbIU8gI9Pm

By the way, did you know you can also subscribe to Mastodon feeds via RSS? I know, right!!

New in Mastodon 4.6: Newsletters 📬

Mastodon servers now support email newsletters, which allow people without a social web account to subscribe to your posts via email. This feature is opt-in at the server level.

We're building Mastodon for people and institutions that want independence from corporate-controlled social networks, so they can reach their audience directly wherever those people are.

The landing page of your Mastodon server doesn't need to look like a social media feed.

As of our latest release, those running Mastodon servers can now set up a custom landing page that highlights what your server is about and showcases recent posts from local profiles. Give visitors a curated introduction to your server that actually makes sense for your community or mission.

Collections let you curate, share, and discover groups of profiles, to help you find the people and content that interests you.

Here's how they're different:
✅ You decide whether your profile can appear in Collections and you can remove yourself from a Collection at any time
✅ Limited to 25 profiles each, no mass-follow shortcuts, and transparency when Collection details change to keep them useful and spam-free

Mastodon 4.6 is here! It's been a long time in the works, but it's finally ready. In this release, we're introducing Collections—a way to share curated collections of profiles to help old and new users discover more of the Fediverse. We're also updating the look of profiles, alongside many quality of life and accessibility improvements.

The EU Commission just released a statement positioning open source as central to #Europe’s tech sovereignty, including #Mastodon.

They intend to “strengthen the open source social media space by supporting open and decentralised social media solutions and platforms. The Commission currently runs a Mastodon instance, which hosts the Commission’s presence and plans to extend the users basis to EU institutions.”

We're delighted to see a cross-party group of MEPs calling for the European Commission to withdraw from X!

We are also happy to be home of many of the European Commission's accounts in the open social web, the #Fediverse, via their own Mastodon server.

Mastodon is proving what's possible.
