You have been very desperate for a job and finally, an offer has come your way. Let’s say an Uber driver’s job. But first, you are required to get Certificate of Good Conduct. You apply for it but then at the DCI Headquarters you are being taken round and round. You meet an officer who tells you he can help you out, but you would have to give some money. You do not have the money so you keep hoping that someone will do their job and issue you with the document since this is a service you are rightly owed by the government as a Kenyan.

One week passes, then another, a month passes, then another. By this time the job opportunity is gone and you do not know who to turn to. You cry to God asking why life has to be this unfair; why the government would allow such an injustice against its own citizen. Your children and wife are looking at you sadly, wondering what happened to the job offer you were very excited about. You get the certificate 5 months later.

That is the story of hundreds of Kenyans who are going through all manner of frustrations trying to get their Certificate of Good Conduct (police clearance), and losing opportunities while at it. Who will listen to their cry? Where will their help come from? This week let us make so much noise on this issue, till something gives!
