In that sense, both the boy and Sifuna stand at the threshold of major transitions one into manhood, the other into a higher level of political leadership.

The symbolism suggests that both must now demonstrate courage, embrace responsibility, and prove they are ready for what lies ahead. In cultural terms, Sifuna is "ripe" for the next stage.

Kenyans shouldn't begrudge Sen Sifuna for his meteoric political rise. We should instead celebrate it. It's always a good thing when a young man gets a break in politics or any career for that matter and thrust himself into the national limelight. Remember, Sifuna hasn't elbowed anyone. He simply claimed a space that was empty since Hon. Kijana Wamalwa died two decades ago. For too long, Western was bereft of a political heavyweight that sat at the national table as of right.
