@hecubian_devil I think the fundamental disconnect here is that you wants politics to solve man's search for meaning and I want politics to deliver a prosperous, safe, free society in which everyone can go find meaning in something other than politics.
@davereaboi The problem isn't so much with NYC as a whole. The problem is that many young people who move to ny insist on living in Manhattan and BK neighborhoods that have a certain cachet but which are unaffordable. You can get a fairly decent and affordable apt in a less hip neighborhood.
@nickgillespie@jonimitchell These videos stink. It's all just clickbait. Not a single direct quote from Mitchell about any of the singers and bands mentioned in the video.
@JoePostingg I don't think he's being racist. I think he's just pointing out that Greeks, just like Southern Italians, are "spicy" whites with some Middle Eastern blood in them. In no way is he saying they're inferior.
@wesyang I recently came across an apposite quote from D.H. Lawrence: "The ideas of one generation become the instincts of the next."
All this woke stuff isn't going away any time soon. Quite the opposite: its absurd tenets are being accepted as a given by younger generations.
@davereaboi@roddreher From an artistic standpoint, one of the problems with the Beats is that they failed to adhere to the following dictum from Flaubert: “Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.”
@davereaboi@roddreher Kerouac definitely was definitely better. But to be honest I always thought the image and lives of the Beats was way more interesting than the stuff they wrote.
