"Everyone is entitled to do what they want to do in that situation. Obviously the Ballon d'Or has become bigger and bigger over recent years, mainly because of social media, and all the noise, and all the conversations about it.

From my point of view, it's just not my personality to talk about myself in that light. I'm still very proud of what I've done. This kid needs proper management and media training. He’s literally embarrassing himself publicly now.

I’ve never seen this level of begging for an award before. He’s literally talking down on his international teammates and making their efforts look minor, despite how poorly he performed at the World Cup. He wasn’t even Spain’s top five performers at the World Cup.

A king doesn’t crown himself. If you think you deserve to win it, then let your football do the talking.

It’s so obvious he knows he doesn’t deserve the award, so he’s trying to PR himself into winning it.

This type of mystical politics — "I know it's true because it's what I personally know" — defines the both the woke-left and, increasingly, parts of the right.

Somehow, almost magically, what you know to be "true" from your lived experience has more weight than several million data points.

I first noticed this on the right in 2024 when rightoids would come into my replies and argue that the US economy was in catastrophic shape (in fact the most important metrics showed it was in good shape) and crime was at record high levels (in fact the data showed it trending toward record low levels).

Where was their evidence? Basically, their own lived experience. (And carefully-curated rightwing doom porn videos on social media.)

These type of people are fundamentally irrational and they pollute the discourse with their infantile motivated reasoning and confirmation bias.
