@foreignersinTW Once we took a long road trip from Taipei to Hualien to Taitung via East Rift Valley, then back to TPE via the scenic coastal route. People were hospitable, food amazing, and the views breathtaking. It is distressful to see the earthquake damage. Hope that people got out ok 🙏
@Byron_Wan Like everything else, the event was carefully scripted to create the illusion that Xi was lording over US business execs. They knew their role was to kiss the ring when they were summoned to the meeting. In fact, everyone was there to sing China's praises at CDF.
The facts: HK & China share a border, do not share the same cultural heritage, history, common language or currency means that by definition, China and Hong Kong are not one people. The fact China can dictate how many Chinese settlers can enter HK means it's a settler colony.
I miss her dearly. But I am glad that she is not around to see what has become of HK. For those who escaped the tyrannical CCP, HK was a place of hope, safety and freedom. But now...😪😡
Blast from the way past...going through my grandma's stuff and found this gem. In the 50s she fled China to HK. Attended night school to learn English and secretarial skills. This is the English textbook.
We urge all #HongKongers who live in the US as well as Americans who support #freedom & #democracy in #HongKong to use @Call4HK's tool to write to your representatives in Congress & ask them to take swift action to respond to draconian #Article23 in HK.

@CollinSLKoh Given their m.o. in the South China Sea, it wouldn't be shocking if they build a bunch of man-made islands in the Pacific and then claim x-dash line as 🇨🇳 territory.
@CindyWan19 During Cultural Revolution, people hid/threw away anything that could be interpreted as having capitalistic/foreign influence. Mainland seems to be heading towards CR 2.0. Is HK on that path as well?
@XinqiSu Fantastic summary. Thank you.
Am I correct that Part 2 Treason applies to Chinese citizens only, while the rest apply to everyone regardless of citizenship?
@Byron_Wan Unsuspecting yes. But mostly they only care about jobs and impact on local economy (i.e. their own pocket and future elections). Many of these elected officials already think that fed gov is too big and anti-business. So national security wouldn't be their top priority.
@RazvenHK Mental health professionals, social workers, counselors as well. What about meetings that discuss business risks? Even venting to friends and family could put one at risk.
@Maytechummia@BuggaMancini For Xi's lackeys in Hong Kong, "security" means Article 23. HK's troubles are mirroring those in China. Economy and personal freedoms are in the dump. Art. 23 will put the nail in the coffin.
Notable things with exactly 99% support:
Election of Rwandan's Paul Kagame
Election of Equatorial Guinea's Teodoro Obiang Nguema
Election of Hong Kong's John Lee
Russia's referendum in Donetsk, Ukraine
HK security law public consultation approval
North Korea's election turnout
It’s time to review Hong Kong’s seat at the World Trade Organization
HK is no longer highly autonomous - its intl voice now is to endorse Beijing and promote Beijing’s agenda. It is a second voice for Beijing, which is not acceptable at the WTO (and other intl organisations)
