@StanSeidel @Hot_Pepper76 This is on the money! I saw him Nov 19 of that year at SUNY Buffalo and BIKO was the last song he played. It was the single greatest performance of a song I have ever seen-so emotional. He left the stage and the crowd continued to chant “Free Nelson Mandela” for a full 5 minutes.

@AmazingPopPod Good guy. I was a senior at Cornell when he was getting his MFA. We were in “The Crucible” together (with Jane Lynch, too). Hung out with him pretty much every night that semester. Had a blast.

@Hot_Pepper76 While Steve Winwood is an absolute genius, he didn’t have much to do with this song. Dave Mason, who wrote this song, was also in Traffic and sang and played lead guitar on the Traffic version, which was great, though not as iconic as Joe Cocker’s amazing cover.
