On July 6, Mindan delivered a petition to Centrist Reform Alliance lawmakers Chinami Nishimura and Eriko Omori opposing tighter policies affecting foreign residents. The move followed meetings with Komeito, the SDP, and CDP on June 18–19.

Mindan is Japan’s main organization for its multigenerational Korean community. Over the past month, it has sought party backing against measures it says could deepen discrimination and administrative pressure on foreign residents.

Its objections include expanded grounds for revoking permanent residence, stricter naturalization and permanent-residency criteria, adding nationality to property registration, and linking residence and special permanent-resident cards with My Number cards.

A related dispute is unfolding in Mie, where Gov. Katsuyuki Ichimi may restore nationality requirements for some civil-service exams from September 2026 onwards, though it has been reported the survey conducted had disappointing results for those in favor of restoration. My closing thoughts on the thread:
There is not enough sociolinguistic analysis of modern Mongolian being tied to Chinese like all other "Sinosphere" languages.

This is also part of my thesis on Mongolia being part of this intellectual tradition, whether it wants to or not.
