Don't teach kids to hide their, perhaps unfavourable, thoughts and feelings. Teach them WHY its unfavourable, HOW it does damage and teach them WHAT they should do. We shouldn't hide history, we should reflect and build on it. To not learn from mistakes is not learning at all.

I studied the book in school, probably year 9 or 10, we understood and we were taught that it was depicting the reality of the time. Not once did I sit there and go "you know what we should bring this back" because we are taught the damage it causes.
