I was passed down treasure trove of disc full of anime and you can definitely tell what stayed. I also had DN Angel as my only anime and I think I rewatched it for an entire year...
Mushoku Tensei is probably the only anime im ready to go to war for, not because I can't take criticism but because most of the critism comes from people who don't watch the show and dont wanna watch it, or people who just want others to hate it cause it has problematic subjects.
This episode literally teaches you that no matter how hard life beats you down or whatever obstacles it throws at you, you gotta get back up as soon as you can and move forward because if you stay down for too long, there might be no going back.
MT shows you how easily you can slip back into your old habits and self-destructive coping mechanisms despite how hard youโve tried to change and improve yourself, but all these people care about is virtue signaling when the series clearly portrays these actions as bad things.

The hate against Mushoku Tensei is one of the most forced and cringiest discourse I've seen in a long time.
It's one of the best anime I've seen. Period. And I've seen many.
The hate against the show always comes from people who haven't watched more than a single episode.
Every single friend who I've shown this show to have fallen in deep love with it.

I made a post about 3 weeks ago when the episode aired with nanaoshi crash out. Calling the show a masterpiece of subversive writing.
Some people disagreed. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and rewatch the whole thing. I'm currently at season 2 of my rewatch, just before the labyrinth arc.
And I remember what happens during that arc.
[...]
And I was right, Mushoku Tensei writing is absurdly good. Because you can totally miss it.
You could take the show as just another Isekai power fantasy. And still find enjoyment from its expansive and carefully crafted world, lore and animation.
But if you pay attention, if you try and look at the second tier of interpretation. That's when the genius reveal itself.
And it's clearly on purpose, the author is going at it with a specific mindset : how can I say something incredibly deep and thoughtful about the human condition while putting these characters into the most outlandish and ridiculous situation.
[...]
A good chunk of season 2 is dedicated to what is called : rudeus erectile dysfunction arc.
And yes, it's incredibly silly at face value I'll admit. And that's the case for most of the show. The premise tends to be ridiculous everytime. The entire premise of the show is.
Yet once you look past the silly premise, the hilarious antics the MC gets into. What are you left with ?
The story of how a simple misunderstanding can create a completely different perspective of the same event for two people.
Eris and Rudeus having sex is a turning point of the show. It's the major end point of season 1.
When Eris leaves then returns later in the story. She thinks nothing of it. To her she clearly explained to Rudeus she wanted to get stronger and couldn't do that at his side so decided to go on an adventure without him. To train.
Eris see their separation as a bittersweet moment, a promise, "I'll be back stronger and will be your staunchest ally".
[...]
To Rudeus, it's traumatic. It makes his life absolute shit for years. Until he meets Sylphie again.
Due to a misunderstanding, not being able to relate to what Eris said in the letter she left him. Rudeus misinterpret her intentions and feelings.
He thinks he wasn't good enough for her.
He gets depressed. He looses confidence, both as a man and as a hero.
My boy Rudeus gets performance anxiety and ED.
And do you know what fix this ? It's not the sex he had with Sylphie. It's the fact that she genuinely loves him and comes back the next morning to greet him with a smile.
[...]
All that Rudeus needed. Was the knowledge that there is someone that genuinely loves him. All he really needed was the reassurance, not that he's a great hero, not that he can perform in bed.
But that he is worthy of being loved unconditionally. Despite all his flaws and antics. There is someone who genuinely loves him.
That's why he immediately marry Sylphie after.
How can you look at this shit. And not call it beautiful is beyond me.
From a "dumb gag" about erectile dysfunction, we got a story about how much a simple miscommunication in a relationship can affect someone's life. And what it takes to fix it.
All of that in a single arc, in a single season.
This isn't just another Isekai. This is a great piece of media.
