In 1974, the Whisky A Go-Go on Sunset Boulevard was still the must-visit hangout for any rockstar passing through Los Angeles.

That year, three very different personalities ended up crossing paths there. Alice Cooper, already a superstar, Ray Manzarek, keyboardist for The Doors, a band that had made history a few years earlier by playing at that very club, and Iggy Pop, the wild force behind The Stooges.

The three represented different layers of the Los Angeles scene: Manzarek came from Morrison’s psychedelic and poetic universe, Cooper had taken rock into the realm of spectacle and theatrical horror, and Iggy embodied the raw, punk energy that was beginning to take shape. Seeing them together in a single photo, drinks in hand, was almost a visual summary of an entire era of California rock.

The Whisky, barely a few years old, had already earned its place as the stage and meeting place that brought together all these generations of Los Angeles rock.
