Gary’s theory is that the cause of wealth inequality is wealth inequality.

In his Oxford thesis he claims that wealthy people become rich, buy assets and then use their passive income to buy more and more assets. He also claims that the rich don’t pay taxes like the rest of us.

If his theory was correct and the UK was experiencing a wealth inequality crisis the share of wealth held by the top 1% would be rising. It’s not - it’s been stable for decades.

The two reasons we are seeing issues at the bottom of the economic pyramid is because of technology and low skilled migration.

Technology is replacing entry level jobs and to the degree that there are entry level jobs the UK now has a large population of low skilled migrants competing for these jobs. Those two factors put massive downward pressure on people at the lower end of the economy.

What we are seeing is millions of young people who are economically inactive. Millions of people whose only economic opportunity is to claim any available government benefits. It has nothing to do with the rich.

The cost of housing has also risen. It’s not because a tiny group of elites buy up houses. It’s because the government had a decade of low interest rates and stimulus and an aging population don’t want to sell their homes and pay stamp duty on a smaller place. We actually have over 9M homes with 2+ spare rooms. Rich people are not interested in owning a 3BR terraced home in the midlands.

It’s easy to blame the rich for the problems we see but the truth is hard to hear… The UK is only surviving because we still have about 3M high earners who are paying historically high taxes. Actually just 300,000 people (1 in 100) are paying a third of the taxes and 30,000 of them (1 in 1000) are paying 10% of the tax bill. In a country with 70M people a few football stadiums of hard working, responsible, enterprising people are paying disproportionate taxes and demonising them isn’t helpful or based on any accurate data.

The Chief Constable of Essex Police said it was “madness” - the furore after two officers visited my house on Remembrance Sunday.

He described it as “just a five-minute conversation with a journalist”.

There is no “just” about a visit from the police. It is deliberately intimidating and an attack on free speech.

I was accused of a serious offence under the Public Order Act for posting a tweet, a year earlier. No one thinks the tweet came anywhere near the threshold for criminal investigation.

The CPS threw the case out but the process is the punishment.

In the same week, a 15-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint a few miles from me. Terrified, he called the police and was told it was no longer a live incident!

Feisty tweet - police visit. Knife crime - you’re on your own, mate.

Police now think it’s their business to advise and to lecture to enforce “values”. Usually on the basis of an allegation by a “protected characteristic”.

They look increasingly sinister and ridiculous. They need to return to policing.

Allister did nothing wrong and I hope he joins me in suing the police.

Shabir Ahmed was convicted of 30 counts of child rape.

He was the leader of the Rochdale grooming gang that raped countless girls, some as young as 12.

He groomed them with drugs and alcohol. They were systematically gang raped in rooms above high street shops.

The rapists were almost all Pakistani Muslim men. The victims were almost all working class, white girls.

Ahmed told the trial: "We are the supreme race." He said the white girls he targeted were "advanced in sex."

This monster is now free, having served just 14 years in prison.

Ahmed is not British. He's a Pakistani national.

He must be deported.

But Labour say he can't be.

It is true that the Immigration Act 1971 does exempt any Commonwealth migrant who came here before 1973 from being deported. And I'm sure Pakistan don't want him back.

But these obstacles are surmountable.

Reform would repeal Section 7 of the Immigration Act 1971 so foreign rape gang perpetrators can be deported.

And we would suspend ALL visas for Pakistanis until they agree to take back Shabir Ahmed.

No visit, study, work, or family visas. None. Each year, we grant around 175,000 visas to Pakistani nationals - including to some very powerful ones keen on spending time in London.

Their Government would agree to take back Ahmed within hours of us doing this.

As with so many of the problems we face, deporting Shabir Ahmed is really about political will.

This is because the anti-capitalist left is not actually against people being crazy rich. They're against certain types of people being crazy rich.

Artists and athletes make sense to them because they've played music and sports and because their success can be explained by "luck" and "talent". Messi's wealth is not offensive to them because they understand Messi is much better at football than they are.

But when it comes to business, the anti-capitalist leftist has no framework for understanding why Jeff Bezos might be super rich since 99% of them have never ever created a product, business or service that was of value to other people. They've never taken entrepreneurial risk. They've never employed people and felt the burden of responsibility that comes with that. They've never pick up a business and given it a play in the way they've picked up a ball or a guitar.

They *literally* don't understand wealth creation. They think there is a fixed amount of money and the only thing a business does is split it unfairly.

It's why they rage at Elon and other successful business leaders. Because they genuinely don't understand why they're wealthy.

Also, and this is just as important, athletes and artists are disproportionately young, attractive, "diverse", left wing etc. Business leaders are "evil" middle aged white men whose success offends the average anti-capitalist leftist because they don't understand a) what it is they do and b) that Elon Musk has the same talent advantage on them as Messi does, it's just harder to measure.
