It feels so very American to have a bunch of firsts, really celebrate diversity and then make sure that the last word goes to the old white guy. #oscars
I’m not saying my spouse is better than yours, but ... Did your spouse make you a mojito right after they got home from work so you could catch the sunset solo with a drink and your feet in a pool? Cause @LauraJReidy sure did that for me.
We’re a country built by slave labor on stolen land, founded by religious zealots thrown out of Europe for being too intense when the church still executed heretics. We fought for independence because the rich among us didn’t want to pay taxes. None of this should be surprising.
Part Five - You can be dumb if it is true to character. This film features multiple characters - including the protagonist - acting to serve a plot rather than the plot coming from the character. Add that almost no one in the film is likable, and this was a BIG let down.
Part Four - For a world that purportedly is all about rules - the rules as laid out in this film undercut all the alluded to rules in parts one and two, defaulting to High Table and not High Table.
Part Three - The violence was unnecessarily graphic. Where the first film showed John shooting people in the head and the second paid off the promise of death by pencil, this one features peoples heads exploding like melons.
Part Two - This was the first one that felt like it had elements to simply be cool. There's NO reason for the final sequence other than to look cool. In part two the mirror exhibit was in the museum we'd visited previously and in the context of the museum made perfect sense.
Part one - This - like the Raid 2 and Matrix Reloaded - dropped story beats in favor of action. In the first two films, the action served the story and characters. Aside from the first key beat, all the sequences had little stakes beyond a series of "boss battles."
I LOVE the first two films. But because I disliked it so much and want to warn others away - 5 reasons to NOT see @JohnWickMovie 3. Non-spoiler thoughts that I feel everyone should know going in.
