This week mark's CAR's 15th anniversary. When we first started in 2011, our mission was clear: put boots on the ground in conflict hotspots around the world to understand exactly what weapons were being diverted, and how. 15 years later, that core mission hasn't changed (1/3)

💢 A new investigation by Conflict Armament Research traces how Yemen’s Ansarallah built an increasingly sophisticated missile and drone arsenal by examining weapon debris, internal components, and manufacturing markings recovered from battlefields, intercepted shipments, and attack sites across Yemen and the Red Sea region.
Investigators documented more than 800 missile and UAV components tied to at least a dozen weapons systems, including anti-ship cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, loitering drones, and surface-to-air systems used in attacks on commercial shipping and regional targets.
The report says many systems carried Iranian military designations rather than locally assigned Houthi names, while also showing evidence that components are being assembled and integrated inside Yemen itself.
CAR identified parts originating from companies across at least 16 countries and territories — including the U.S., China, Germany, Japan, and the UK — highlighting how global commercial supply chains continue feeding the group’s weapons infrastructure despite years of sanctions and naval interdictions.
The report suggests the Houthis increasingly rely on decentralized shipping and domestic assembly networks, allowing them to sustain long-range attacks across the Red Sea corridor.

Here we are not even one year later with the same problem from @KenyaPower@KenyaPower_Care. This time 4 days and counting with no end or spare transformers in sight. Despicable service as always.
Bendera Lane Spring valley has been without power for 3 days now and @KenyaPower_Care@KenyaPower has done very little to respond claiming they don't have spares for a transformer. This is the service we get for paying sky high power bills. Disgusting!
Kenya's richest monopoly @KenyaPower can't manage to provide working transformers throughout the country. One on Bendera Lane in Nairobi has blown out 3 times in less than one year resulting in days and days of no power and no urgency on the part of corrupt KPLC. Ref # 14652500
✍️@UN_OCT & @conflictarm formalized their partnership under the #AROS Programme through a MOU building on years of collaboration on unmanned systems, including #UAS, to support Member States in addressing challenges & opportunities of related technology for #CounterTerrorism 🤝

Conflict Armament Research (CAR) investigation teams documented electronic components found in the navigation sub-system of three North Korean KN-23 or -24 ballistic missiles used against Ukraine in 2024.
Two components were identified as being made by an EU-based company, investigators established that it had legally exported them in multiple consignments to a distributor in Hong Kong.

Debris from weapons used by Russia in Ukraine shows a continued reliance on foreign commercial parts despite international sanctions.
How do these technologies bypass export controls? And what are the implications for efforts to curtail the spread of weapons components?

Somalia 🇸🇴 is the first country in the world to adopt AmTag- a major step in strengthening ammunition traceability and accountability.
Proud to have supported this pilot alongside @ONSSomalia and partners. 🇬🇧🤝🇸🇴

CAR has successfully piloted AmTag™, a novel chemical marking system to trace state-held ammunition, with Somalia being the first country to adopt it as part of national efforts to reduce diversion, illicit proliferation, and strengthen oversight.

@KenyaPower_Care I just spoke with a team on site and they said they are waiting for a new transformer to be installed. Please expedite this if possible. Reference number is 13064744

Without power for 3 days now and @KenyaPower and @KenyaPower_Care slow to respond and without the adequate spares despite their ever increasing exorbitant service charges. Dismayed and disappointed with this horrible service!
