π Excited to announce that "Bayesian Illumination: Inference and Quality-Diversity Accelerate Generative Molecular Models" is now available! Key takeaway: Bayesian Illumination is 100x more effective than either genetic algorithms or deep generative models. π
@abbas_k_rizi There's a longer, more complex, and subtle reasoning as well. The large scale holocaust rememberence took a lot of time and efforts after WW2 to start. Europe struggled to look itself in the mirror. There's residual momentum from those efforts on top of the delay, I think.
@abbas_k_rizi Well, the literal nazi salute kind of gave us a hint this time. But I think, the absolute massive scale of the holocaust (17 million) and the fact that the NSDAP rose out of a Western democracy. Also, it's not that long ago. There's still holocaust survivers alive today.
@SamuelMullr Super interesting! Is there a way of calculating/estimating uncertainties? I'm looking for something to fast to replace Gaussian processes.
I got on this platform as a teenager to follow the arab spring. I'll never forget the first images to come out of Syria back then. I still hope to see Assad in a docket at The Hague one day, but for now I'll settle with his regime being brought down. #syria

i don't think all academics are driven by trauma. but academia attracts ppl who experienced school as a central space of validation, maybe the only place they were ever praised/"seen." also, academic accomplishments are wielded to counter parental neglect & societal debasement.
