I'm currently doing a lot of interviews with some of the best technical talent in the world. This helped me realize a pattern about the European job market that is not that talked about but has massive impact on tech in Europe.
Wdyt? Are you a tech IC? Can you confirm?

I cannot recommend @edzitron work on OpenAI enough. The best current look at the "business" I've seen so far:
R&D cost rising sharply... plus 5.7b just for Sales & Marketing. Dizzying numbers. Many people underestimate the 2nd order effects - all kinds of connected markets are heavily distorted - not just GPUs.
...and it seems the original path to profitability - basically building AGI and asking it for a business model - seems still the scenario they (and to some extend other labs) are betting on.
Altman in 2019: "We have made a soft promise to investors that once we've built this sort of generally intelligent system, basically, we will ask it to figure out a way to generate an investment return for you."
@giulio_mattioli One aspect of this, I find quiet fascinating, and incredibly under reported: the target mechanism inside the eurozone. Will this ever be relevant, for anything?

@Alyxhoppe Let's do negative income tax. Like -200%
No bigger cost for the companies and government can just print money as much as they want.
Everyone wins.
Some technology will discourage war, some technology will encourage it. I can see AI potentially going in both directions. it’s a reconfiguration of the loss landscape of international conflict. What this means for any particular actor depends on where they land in high dimensional space.
@GadSaad I was always a romantic sucker for being part of a team achieving something great together. Although experience is trying to remind me to be more selfish
@Hitchslap1 I would be happy to get brain surgery from someone with a 115 IQ. With some diligence, industriousness and conscientiousness you can achieve fantastic things even without being exceptionally intelligent.
@Aella_Girl If the inheritance variance for the next generation stays intact, then I think pressing the button makes sense. It’s such a boost for the whole planet. And we’ll have geniuses in the next generation again.
Hell is clicking on one piece of AI slop video crack and having the algorithm lock you into an irreversible reward-hacking loop. There is no counterbalancing the signal because there's nothing else to click. You can delete your account, but Meta's shadow tracking still knows.
