Having "the talk" with everyone my building. We don't open the door for police or immigration agents, which will be one in the same under Trump, and everything gets filmed on live if they turn up.
Have the talk, fam, before it's too late.
Republicans have a rightwing media ecosystem that repeats GOP talking points over and over, ad nauseam, until they’re seared into your cerebral cortexes. Not only is there no equivalent on the left, but plenty of D politicians still refuse to bolster independent progressive creators. They still give all juicy interviews to MSM, still break news on MSM, still pretend MSM is on our “team.” They’re not, and in fact bend over backwards NOT to be viewed as the liberal media. Dem politicians could benefit from validating the very progressive outlets that are actually doing the work to support them.
Do not underestimate the power of right-wing media. Many of our fellow Americans live on Earth-3. There's a reason Dana White gave a shout-out to Rogan and Theo Von. Democrats and liberals still have no counter.
🚨NEWS: the Biden-Harris admin took a HUGE step to address the opportunity gap in higher education by investing in Hispanic-serving institutions across the nation.
When we invest in Hispanic-serving institutions, we invest in our workforce, our economy, and our future.
Hispanic-Serving Institutions play a vital role in driving economic mobility for Latinos. We’re proud to join other Hispanic and education leaders at the White House to celebrate investments to further strengthen these institutions! Learn more: https://t.co/izkjfBatP9
The solution to labor exploitation of undocumented immigrants is to give them protections against unscrupulous people who exploit their vulnerability, and crack down on employers who steal wages or pay under minimum wage. Not deport them and harm EVERYONE.
It’s absolutely mind-boggling how many people in this country think that immigrants can just fill out paperwork and either “come legally” or “become a citizen.” It’s both so wrong and also such a product of intentional misinformation.
Immigrants shouldn't have to be exceptional to be valued. Immigrants should have the right to be as average as the rest of us and still not be targets of hatred and violence.
Given the xenophobic tenor of this election cycle, I just want to point out (again) that so many big American newsrooms – Axios, Politico, MSNBC, NBC News, NOTUS, etc – have no serious, full time immigration reporter to inform their audiences.
Frankly, this is malpractice.
Some background here. Undocumented immigrants are barred from federally backed mortgages (no FHAs, etc). Some private lenders will offer loans, but that requires an ITIN. So, basically: any undocumented immigrant getting a mortgage is also paying income taxes
That's roughly $1,841 per person. By comparison, a bus ticket to New York costs about $215, while a flight costs about $350.
It would have WAY cheaper to just give migrants money for tickets. Abbott's effort not only made it a political stunt, it lined a contractor's pocket.
Adam Kinzinger, a lifelong Republican politician who voted with Trump 90% of the time in Congress, is onstage at the DNC. It’s part of the Democratic Party’s ‘big tent’ strategy. I get it.
But the big tent doesn’t include a Palestinian-American elected Democrat on stage.
Sad.
Long term, this trend-line is very bad for the left.
It makes Democrats more likely to cater to affluent white Republicans, while Republicans will probably continue to not adopt policies that benefit Latino workers, U.S.-born or not.
Remember, class — Pollsters almost always survey *likely* voters. it's the eligible voter who wasn't going to turn out until someone knocked on their door with a voter reg clipboard ... that's the voter the pollsters always miss.
👀👀Fwiw, MAGA scapegoats undocufolk bc the political infrastructure ain't there for them to defend themselves.
Intersectional advocacy has diluted the message of a once mighty migrant rights movement over the last decade.
This has left undocufolk totally vulnerable to predatory political whims of mediocre bullies, the essence of the MAGA movement and its now-flailing leader.
As I've long said, a reset is needed to focus the fight, a reset that could totally happen in a Harris admin but only if migrants consolidate their ask into something meaningful for the impacted community — like, for example, a mass amnesty.
Clutching pearls because a Democratic president (or other allies) colloquially say "illegals" gets undocupals no where in terms of policy. In fact, it makes the whole movement a joke in Congress where amnesties are made. Wordplay campaigns reinforce the Beltway status quo which is that the migrant rights movement needen't be taken seriously.
I'm a broken record here; but as Harris rises in polls, it seems worth repeating: migrants need a united ask to demand of Washington policymakers, then a plan to get it done. Otherwise a potential Harris presidency will be another lost opportunity for permanent relief from the shitshow caste system of flimsy, fleeting immigration statuses that are frankly an affront to the promises of equality and enfranchisement that is central to our global American brand.

I remember people telling me, when I called for Biden to step aside for Harris almost a month ago, that there would be a party civil war, that Harris would be skipped over by donors, that there wasn't enthusiasm for Harris from the base, etc, etc.
How did that argument work out?
