A Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 was involved in a level bust and loss of control event during a go-around at London Stansted Airport in December 2023.
A newly released AAIB investigation concluded that the missed approach altitude had not been set on the mode control panel prior to the go-around, causing the flight to climb above the missed approach altitude of 3000 feet.
The pilot was fixated on the flight directors and expected them to command the aircraft to level off. After reaching 4030 feet, the pilot pitched the aircraft down and entered a descent.
During the descent the aircraft reached a nose-down attitude of 17.7° and 295 KIAS, with Flaps 5 extended before a recovery and climb was initiated, during which its lowest recorded height was 1,740 ft agl. The entire event occurred with the aircraft in IMC.

Sabiam que quando se forma um furacão nas Caraíbas, daqueles que destroem tudo à sua passagem, há uns "malucos" que se metem lá dentro para os estudarem e oferecerem informações preciosas aos serviços meteorológicos?
São os Hurricane Hunters da NOAA, National Oceanic and Athmosferic Administration, dois aviões do tipo Lockheed WP3D Orion (variante do Lockheed Electra que fez a ponte aérea Rio-São Paulo durante décadas). Se alguma vez apanharam turbulência severa num voo esqueçam tudo o que sofreram porque o que se passa no interior do furacão não é sequer classificável. Só vos digo que já houve quem levasse com acelerações de 7 Gs quando o limite estrutural dos aviões anda pelos 2 Gs. As tripulações são compostas por 2 pilotos e 15 cientistas, todos amarrados com cintos de segurança de 5 apoios. Entre os pilotos há duas mulheres sem medo sempre prontas a enfrentar estas monstruosidades.
