So... I wonder what the founders would think about the fact that our constitutional institutions have deteriorated so far that Congress is now getting lectures about checks and balances from the King of England.
@LangmanVince Do you have trouble respecting a political movement overwhelmingly propped up by aging white folks? Well then physician, heal thyself!
Personally, I am grateful for anyone, old or young, who stands up for the constitution and our country's future.
@DawnsMission Police often have a presence at mass events like this to protect the public, including protestors, counterprotestors, and third parties. It's good policing and supports everyone exercising their rights peacefully.
@JoeConchaTV The trees haven't completely turned yet here (there are live webcams you van verify with), but I'll note that there is literally fall foliage in this video. I was at this event and honestly this shot is really underestimating the size, it's only showing one corner of the crowd.
@matt_vanswol Who lives in Black Mountain, NC? Per wikipedia: As of the 2020 United States census and American Community Survey 2021(5 year estimates), the racial makeup of the town was 85.37% White... The median age was 57.5 years.
@TomsVolleyBall0@the_transit_guy@JDVance I like leaders with integrity. Some Dems have it. Some Republicans do too. I'm a Dem but there are a lot of Rs I respect and I've even voted for some of them in the past.
We need both parties or it's not a democracy any more. What I want is for both parties to be better.
@TomsVolleyBall0@the_transit_guy@JDVance I would much rather have leaders with integrity, whose opinions differ from mine, than liars and scoundrels who pass all the ideological purity tests.
@TomsVolleyBall0@the_transit_guy@JDVance You're being sarcastic, but yes, the Dems have also been hostile to moderates. Which is why they have become less competitive in, e.g. OH, FL. I disagree with Fetterman about some things but he offers a perspective that is good for the Democratic party and the country.
@Bobjone77105131@marnesdad@DC_Draino They do have representation. The 2nd district is fairly favorable for republicans and so tends to be won by moderates from one party or the other. The current Rep., Jared Golden is moderate Democrat. A moderate Repub usually runs and the election tends to be very competitive.
@DC_Draino Also several of these states only have ONE (VT) or TWO seats (NH, ME) seats which rather limits the ability for *anyone* to gerrymander the boundaries.
@DC_Draino Here is the New Hampshire map, via Wikipedia. Note that the blue cities are both in the 1st district, ie the map is gerrymandered *in favor* of the GOP. However, a Democrat still wins the second district. Why? Because the GOP ran an extremist who WASN'T EVEN FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE!
