We're working with FCDO & DCMS colleagues to support UK soft power efforts through the UK Soft Power Council. Today's roundtable provided an opportunity to discuss a new report by @JonathanMcClory for @LabourTogether focusing on UK soft power in a dangerous and competitive world
Today’s cabinet appointments have seen the greatest continuity between shadow posts and taking up roles in government of any recent election. It has also been notable that we have seen no major departmental re-organisations or changes of name.

Yes, I'm an @instituteforgov alum. Yes, I am biased.
That said, the IfG's live blog of Starmer's cabinet appointments is absolutely brilliant.

🧵Although much of the focus of this pamphlet https://t.co/YBeutwpoMA has inevitably been on the proposed replacement of the Foreign Office, there is a radical thought buried within the text worthy of examination, namely that the UK needs to rethink the way it sees itself. 1/7
It occurred to very few people in the West that Ukraine could do this, and since it wasn't part of our mental world, we ignore it and fail to give credit. But in the real world this is very significant and a good sign for the future.
If you're not familiar with @London_Inst, you should be. Their Fellows are doing incredible work in theoretical science and LIMS have also created a space for the best Ukrainian and Russian minds to continue their research in the heart of London. 🧮
