North Dakota farmer Lane Unhjem suffered a heart attack while harvesting crops near Crosby.

While fighting a fire in his combine, the 57-year-old went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment and recovery.

What stunned him: Around 60 neighbours, friends, and family dropped everything, brought their own machinery, and finished harvesting his remaining ~1,000 acres of durum wheat and canola in about seven hours.

Unhjem had already harvested his peas, but the community stepped in during the critical window to save his crops.

As one family friend said, “This is just what we do around here when someone needs help.”A heartwarming story of rural neighbours looking out for one another.
