You can effortlessly imagine this as a Western. Or a Disney movie. Or a sci-fi or fantasy movie, or a Marvel movie; hell, it’s practically Joseph goddamn Campbell. This is a STORY that Americans are PRIMED to climb aboard.
Let me pitch you a movie.
There’s a community that’s long been beset by a vulgar and narcissistic bad guy. He’s been a fixture for so long that he’s come to be seen as inevitable, and many in the community have been tempted and seduced by his cynicism and moral degradation.
Then, maybe, there’s a part where the bad guy buffoonishly falls on his face as he tries to pivot in response, laying even more bare his pettiness and perfidy - this story beat to be workshopped in the coming months.
I've got two tickets I can't use to The Improvised Shakespeare Company, this Wednesday at 8pm at Largo at the Coronet. Free to a good home! Who wants to go?

@JamesUrbaniak I *just* rewatched this movie last week (can you guess why?). It's wonderful. (Although, it does have a few jokes that, uh... you wouldn't make today.)
@toddalcott Ahhh, but to see her is thrilling.
Howww can I tell her I love her?
Ohhh, if she'd give me a filling.
But each day when I see her I wince;
She won't even tell me to rinse.
