@cairoasmith the trailer was horrific. thats why it flopped, trailer was total garbage and i was forced to watch it 20 times with no clue about what the movie was actually about. they should have had one cut scene at the end calling into q the rest of the trailer, w/o giving it away entirely
@markcousinsfilm@BBCPM the trailer killed it. i saw that and thought i have no interest in tom cruise in a wig yelling in a stupid accent about his cat. and it turns out that was not the film at all, but i had no idea from watching that catastrophe
@stalecooper in rainbows was the culmination, even perfection, of the sound they'd been striving for from kid a onwards. I think its their best record, love OKC, but it feels tied to a particular era much more than IR
@Hatzlakah1@SabriSun_Miller the khazar stuff is tangential to the main argument, which is that the concept of 'the jewish people' is relatively historically recent. which i think it true, dont have to agree with this conclusions to recognise that
@FranziaMom as a whole its irredeemably cringe, but cringe in a highly original way. and its high points are genuinely fantastic. So yeah, an actually existing guilty pleasure
@TedNeath@davidclowery yeah i was listening to reckoning this morning after this discussion, and it is genuinely strange record, despite the obvious hooks. which is also why its magic!
@Steven_Hyden@KVanValkenburg you know who else was still pumping out classic after classic in his 40s, not that anyone gave a shit...Ryan Adams...in 20-30 years time when noone cares about that whole shady texting/being a dickhead thing anymore, he's going to be re-elevated to the top tier, guaranteed
@TedNeath@davidclowery it is, and yet also massively underplayed - to that extent i think the OP has a point. they probably just need a track on whatever the next stranger things is, a la kate bush
@JFreshHockey@FelixTandem it is definitely true that they havent had the explicit retrospective revival that most bands of their era/ilk have had...i suspect it will come in the next couple of years though.
@SnailStrike@alex_callinicos its not that complicated, all her 'friends' abandoned her based on her having fairly reasonable disagreements about gender/trans - or worse, started organising protests against her - at the hardest time in her life. and it sent her a bit mad for a while, as it would to anyone.
@DoubleEph im she's not wrong, there were undoubtedly complex elements of the story and characters missing. But he did succeed in making it into a v entertaining 3 hour film, which is a serious achievement in its own right
@rcolvile unquestionably true, before the final half hour v argentina this was the best world cup for england for a decade or more, tuchel a solid 8/10
