@CodifyBaseball What’s the call for the runner if his foot is on the base before the pitcher releases the ball and the batter were to hit a pop up? Run back to first or is second his new base?
@DMacSportsCO@AltitudeSR is that what's wrong with Bo's happy feet? Is it blowing the play call sheet away from Sean? Sure doesn't seem to be bothering the raiders punter.
@VicLombardi Our boys' school got a new PE teacher this year and she's old school-real competition and the classic 1st, 2nd and 3rd ribbons. The way it's supposed to be!
Some disappointing news out of Colorado this week. A bill on the Governor's desk seeks to:
Consider deadnaming and misgendering coercive control.
Strip parents of their parental rights.
Define deadnaming and misgendering as discriminatory acts.
"The gospel isn’t just for the moment we believe. We need the gospel every moment of our lives. Our hearts are made new by the Holy Spirit the moment we believe; they’re renewed as we pursue the Spirit day after day." @JeffVanderstelt https://t.co/t5j8yZAMnQ
As technology dulls affections and rots brains, churches can love the digitally weary. Let’s embody compelling community and make theology great again.
The advice I give young preachers before they preach...
Remember: no one has come to see you today.
Don't try to be awesome.
We don't care if you're cute, funny, charming, or impressive.
We've not come to be amazed by you.
We've come to see Jesus.
Give me Jesus.
Preaching doesn't take guts; pastoring does.
Yesterday I was a guest preacher at a church about two hours from my house. They'd asked me to teach on gender: masculine, feminine, trans.
A sweet lady came up to me after the service and told me, "It took guts to say what you did and I'm glad you said it!" I thanked her for the encouragement, but I disagreed with her: "the local pastor here has the gutsy, hard work to do, not me."
I haven't felt nervous to preach in years, but I do get nervous to have hard conversations with people I'm in relationship with. In preaching you have a lot of control - in pastoring you have almost none.
Here is what I think actually takes guts:
1. privately confronting a friend who's in sin
2. initiating church discipline on a well-known member
3. disappointing a key volunteer by ending their ministry
4. asking for forgiveness when you dropped the ball
5. saying no to a good opportunity to spend time with family
6. saying no to the dinner invitation that you know will unnecessarily drain your wife
7. telling that singer her voice isn't good enough for Sundays
8. firing that kids volunteer because he's being creepy when he thinks he's being nice
9. asking for and assimilating negative feedback
10. initiating conflict with someone who's been faction-building and gossiping under the guise of caring and soliciting wisdom.
The best missiological strategy I've found for reaching lost people in Colorado:
Expositional preaching
Believe it or not, most non-Christians want to know what the Bible actually says.
Make it a goal in 2024 to be deeply involved in your local church.
What services does your church have? Be at them.
Are there needs or opportunities to serve? Ask how you can help.
Have you been visiting but hesitant to join? Take the leap.
Are there people you haven't met? Introduce yourself.
@VicLombardi guess which NBA team was an afterthought on @SportsCenter recap of 2023? Lakers, warriors, bucks, and lots of Britney Griner.
More UFC, Spanish soccer talk than @nuggets
