Pastoral communities in Ethiopia’s Somali Region have long relied on mobility to sustain their herds, moving in search of rainfall, pasture, and water. Increasing climate variability is making these movements less predictable, with changing rainfall patterns shaping when and where herders travel.
Now, GIST Research, with support from the @UNmigration, are pairing that centuries-old knowledge with Spire’s satellite-based Soil Moisture Insights to strengthen early warning systems in one of Africa's most climate-exposed regions.
With five years of @SpireWxClimate's Soil Moisture Insights, GIST Research, in collaboration with the IOM, combined in-depth field research and extensive on-the-ground consultations to map out conflict dynamics and trace how rainfall, water, and soil conditions influence pastoralist mobility across thousands of kilometers of rangeland.

We’re excited to share that @Deloitte has selected @SpireGlobal to design, build, and operate eight satellites to advance its on-orbit cyber and data operations.
These satellites will support Deloitte’s on-orbit cyber payloads, as well as its space data capabilities for commercial and government clients.
The mission consists of eight satellites with advanced radio frequency and geolocation payloads, as well as serving as a platform for advancing Deloitte’s Silent Shield mission to further innovate in satellite vehicle defense and resilience.
