For the first time in over a decade, there are now 530,000 more home sellers than buyers, the biggest gap ever recorded.

This should be great news for young people trying to buy homes, but it's exposing a political problem.

Trump openly admitted that helping young buyers requires driving prices down, which tanks the wealth of existing homeowners, mostly boomers.​

Young people have basically stopped buying homes.

84% of Gen Z is delaying homeownership because prices are still astronomical despite this massive inventory glut.

The median first time buyer is now 40 years old.

You need to earn $141,000 just to afford a median priced home when the average salary is $75,000.

Even with sellers desperate to offload properties, the core problem remains, homes cost way too much because mortgage rates are above 6% (up from pandemic lows of 3%), and boomer homeowners have seen their properties appreciate by 33% in five years.​

This creates a dilemma for Trump because increase housing supply to lower prices and help young buyers, or protect the wealth boomers built through home appreciation.

Trump said it himself, he wants to "keep up" boomer home values while making it possible for young people to buy.

You can't do both.
