Popping back in briefly to say I'm (occasionally) writing over here now, yesterday I posted about why Congress these days seems full of distrust. Easiest to subscribe (it's free), if you get the app you get to see my short Notes about the time the NSF wanted to dig a big hole
Consistent with my data on policy conflict in cong. committees showing that pharmaceutical industry regulation produces less conflict in the HELP committee than other health-related issues
Potential bipartisan breakthrough announced by Sanders and Cassidy
“we’ve come to an agreement to consider critical pieces of legislation to reform pharmacy benefit managers and expand the availability of low-cost generic drugs through the HELP Committee”
Adam Silver said with the in-season tournament, the NBA wanted to "create new games of consequence, taking a page from European soccer." He said, "visually it will look different." Players will wear different unforms, there will be a different court, you will know it's different.
I think Looney is a really good, underrated player, but I was shocked earlier when I saw he was 7th in the league in WS/48 this season, 5th if you take out players who played fewer than 65 games
It's notable who wants us to have less information when talking about players and teams.
It's the people who want to keep their jobs selling ads for shows and games.
New: Sen. Dianne Feinstein releases an update on her health. Does not ID a timeline for return but says she welcomes “another Democratic senator to temporarily serve” on Judiciary in her absence
@joshHuder There's also an opportunity cost for the issue: bringing in Schulz or the TikTok CEO to yell at takes up time/effort/other resources that could go towards highlighting some other issue that's also worthy of attention.
@joshHuder Again, agree with the broader point. But that issue attention/democratic accountability depends on the media to treat it as such, and I'm not sure that happens with these kinds of hearings anymore.
@joshHuder Larger point is fair. But the combination of reduced legislative input and changing media environment creates more incentives to hold a hearing where you bring in Howard Schulz to yell at him rather than a hearing about labor policy more generally.
