I saw something at a coffee shop that really stayed with me.
There was this young guy at the register, couldn’t have been more than sixteen. A customer came in, placed an order, and the boy rang it up wrong. It was a small mistake, the kind anyone could make, especially on the job. But the customer completely lost it. Raised his voice, called the boy stupid and incompetent, making a whole scene while everyone watched. The boy kept apologizing, his voice shaky, eyes already welling up.
Then the manager walked over. I honestly expected the usual apologies to the customer, maybe offer a refund or free drink just to calm things down. But she didn’t do any of that. She looked straight at the man and said, “Get out.”
The entire place went quiet.
The customer blinked, confused. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” she said, calm but firm. “Get out of my shop and don’t come back.”
He tried making a scene, saying he…

THE CRAZY CRISIS IN TARLAC CITY
Most people are unaware that there’s a brewing if not full-blown crisis going on in Tarlac City.
Mayor Susan-Yap was disqualified by the COMELEC En Banc, which ruled that the Vice-Mayor should succeed.
And so the Vice-Mayor right after learning of the news from media, dahil atat siya, eh nag oathtaking ceremony na siya.
The Vice-Mayor hails from the Angeles political dynasty — the same politicians na pinahirapan si Leni Robredo mangampanya nuong 2022 Elections sa Tarlac.
The problem is, hindi pa proclaimed ang Vice-Mayor ng COMELEC and wala pang writ of execution or order of implementation.
So initially nagkaka gulo sa City Hall sino susundin. But luckily, Mayor Susan-Yap has good lawyers and is still on top of things.
But wait there’s something crazier here — the COMELEC initially upheld Susan-Yap’s election but on motion for reconsideration sa En Banc, two out of the three Commissioners in the Division switched votes!
Walang concurring opinion etong dalawang Commissioner to explain bakit sila bumaliktad. Bumoto lang at pumirma sa En Banc decision.
Eh ang problema, parang sinasabi nilang mali sila dun sa unang decision without explaining why they reversed themselves!
And here’s the craziest part — Susan-Yap was disqualified by the COMELEC on the ground that she was not a resident of Tarlac City despite multiple pieces of evidence that she resided there AND voted there since 2014!
She showed evidence that her house in Barangay Tibag was really a home — may kitchen kung san sya lagi nag luluto, may clothes and shoes, may banyo kung san may sabon and shampoo kung san sya naliligo.
Tapos may Voter’s Certification or record sya from the COMELEC itself that she voted in Barangay Tibag, Tarlac City since 2014 — most recently voting in the 2022 Elections! 💖
Initially, the COMELEC in a Division upheld Susan-Yap’s residency given the clear evidence.
Pero ayun nga, nung inakyat na sa COMELEC En Banc eh hindi pinaniwalaan yung ebidensya niya — hindi daw sya nakatira duon talaga or pekeng residence yun kasi mukhang “warehouse.”
Hala, eh madaming bahay ngayon ang aesthetic is industrial finish or minimalist and brutalist.
Andun ang sabon at shampoo niya pero hindi siya nakatira duon?!
Duon siya bumoto for good governance in 2022 pero wala syang legal residence?!
Crazy, I tell you.
Nalaman ko lang dahil may friend akong taga Tarlac who gave me a heads up about the issue and alam niya mahilig ako sa political and legal issues.
Sa ngayon eh hindi pa nag-a-assume office as Mayor yung Vice-Mayor.
Pero abangan natin ang susunod na kabanata because the decision from COMELEC is really really weird.
I expect the Supreme Court will reverse it.

An interesting read from Reddit, from an "insider" in the construction business. He/She was citing an example, a ₱14M road project which actually cost only ₱3M, the ₱11M being distributed to the SOP "stakeholders."
“KUNG MARAMI KA PANG TANONG SA AKIN, LALABANAN KITA SA DISTRITO” – FINANCE SEC. RALPH RECTO JOKES WITH SON RYAN
WATCH: Finance Secretary Ralph Recto shared a light-hearted moment with his son, Batangas 6th District Rep. Ryan Recto, during the Development Budget Coordination Committee briefing at the House of Representatives, August 18.
Ryan Recto noted, “We are still a lower middle-income country, falling in the range of $1,136 to $4,495. It’s a shame I can’t classify this as upper middle-income—it’s only $26 short.”
Ralph Recto jokingly replied, “Kung marami ka pang tanong sa akin, lalabanan kita sa distrito,”
