We had the great pleasure of hosting the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, at our Monfalcone shipyard. This meeting was a significant opportunity to showcase the Group's industrial capabilities, our expertise in building technologically complex ships, and our commitment to the sustainable and digital transition.
Welcomed by our CEO Pierroberto Folgiero, our General Manager of the Merchant Ships Division Luigi Matarazzo, our SVP EU & NATO Affairs Davide Cucino, and the shipyard Director Cristiano Bazzara, the Commissioner toured the production areas and boarded a ship under construction, experiencing firsthand the numerous innovations we are implementing in our shipyards and learning about companies such as Marine Interiors and Fincantieri Ingenium.
During the meeting, the need to further strengthen the competitiveness of European shipbuilding emerged, with a commitment to consolidating leadership in high-value-added ships.
The dual dimension of the industry, for European defense and security, was also emphasized, with a focus on the underwater domain and the protection of critical infrastructure. The role of innovation in the sustainable and digital transition was central as well, with a focus on decarbonization technologies - including long-term solutions such as hydrogen and nuclear - and digital initiatives, pillars of the forthcoming EU Maritime Industrial Strategy expected in 2026.
We thank Commissioner Tzitzikostas for his visit and the attention given to our workers, underscoring the centrality of people in the sector's competitiveness. We are proud of the recognition of our role in the sustainable transformation of the maritime sector and of having demonstrated the production excellence of the site, an international benchmark for quality, innovation, and production efficiency.
