1/3] A call to Ethical Leadership | ‘Improve the quality of life of all citizens and free the potential of each person; and...’ A practical and inspiring talk by our beloved Chief Justice Mogoeng at the 2016 Social Investment Conference https://t.co/lLlTdWnodl
Could we consider starting at a 0.5% threshold🤓 To be reasonable and still give maximal effect to the choice we made to be a multi-party democracy🇿🇦, AND can we legislate that parties must have actual substantive democratic processes + fiscal transparency in their constitutions?
If there was a 1% threshold in parliament the following parties would not exist.
ACDP 0.6%
UDM 0.49%
RISE 0.42%
BOSA 0.41%
ATM 0.40%
Al-Jamah 0.24%
NCC 0.23%
PAC 0.23%
UAT 0.22%
GOOD 0.18%
As a collective they make up just over 3% nationally. Thresholds are coming to local govt.
Another of our national aunts. Women have really carried this nation through so many challenging moments.
Trusting she is still available to do national duty, as called upon. Our RSA commissions of enquiry and other institutions need people of integrity 🇿🇦🎈
@simsilwana, we cannot apply logic to political utterances. We must appreciate that the illogical gymnastics presented here are beyond many of us. We must accept that we are bound by facts and limited by ethics…
PS: glad you choose to remain in the arena 🇿🇦
Our aunt @GJFras is doing the lawds work by speaking truth to power as only she can. Not my actual aunt, but as a national treasure I'm claiming you 🫶🏾🇿🇦
Highlights: Dr Geraldine Fraser‑Moleketi explains that Section 25 of the Constitution was never the primary obstacle to land reform; the real culprits were state incapacity, corruption, and a lack of political will. #Constitution30#AfricaDay2026
‘An ANC president’ might unintentionally communicate ‘any ANC president’. Might it not be more accurate to say that we prefer Ramaphosa? Obvs we acknowledge he is the ANC leader🤓 Given our complex RSA, we might not all like every ANC leader, e.g., Paul Mashatile 🫶🏾
Listened to 702 the whole day. I think most South Africans do not want to see the back of President Ramaphosa.
Very interesting because some of the people hate the ANC but everyone agrees an ANC President is the best thing this country has.
@franstaar, so are we suggesting that many JSCs might never have known about these helpful facts? And thus many a JSC chair, read Chief Justice, might have erred on the side of entertaining unhelpful and possibly illogical questions/interventions? cc @dansmywholename 😅
I am reading the transcripts of the first ever JSC interviews in October 1994. Corbett CJ says, in opening the interviews, that guidelines have been adopted for regulating the interviews “and these have been given to the candidates and the press”. He goes on to summarise them:
Unrelated thought, could we ask our ConCourt to hold the hands of their Supreme Court and gently guide them back to a semblance of constitutional adjudication? Their ‘major questions doctrine’, etc, are perhaps too nakedly, uhm, partisan politics 🇿🇦
Team, if you can afford it, make sure have a proper medical aid. Monthly contributions are only a fraction of what weeks in ICU will cost you.
Don't bankrupt your family, get yourself on a medical aid.
Brother, Siviwe is doing what all Ministers do iro this public announcement.
She is the Minister, and so she is announcing it.
Additionally, I am always in favour of good speech delivery. I'm pro humans delivering in their best language and getting it translated as necessary 🎈
You guys are praising Siviwe when she couldn’t even attend the signing ceremony of the policies that are turning around DBE? Policies she fought when was a DA backbencher? Just because she made a nice speech with an accent?
Question: Are we suggesting that our foreign policy outlook based on our constitutional principles and fundamental constitutional values actually aligns with that of Russia and China? Unless proven wrong I’m shocked. 🙏🏾
We appreciate that the USA and other international matters are pressing, aside from our RSA matters, but could we rather consider starting earlier than expected instead of, uhm, later 🇿🇦
Fabulous hearing cogent and actual journalists help us make sense of that production in that white house 🇿🇦
PS: is this your weekly/monthly cos we miss hearing your voice as our chief editor of all newsrooms 😅🫶🏾
I did things differently for this episode of The Readiness Report with @dailymaverick - In DC, I hang out with my buddy, Phillip Van Niekerk quite a lot. He is the former editor of @mailandguardian
We share a lot of insights & laughs. He knows DC. So here!
