@Allthingslight0 For indie dance stuff I’ll leave the timing of doubles alone for a raw sound, but for EDM I use vocalign so the doubles are all tight with the lead and the lyrics sound clear
@Allthingslight0 Yeah usually I’ll do 2-3 takes of each part and stack or pan them for a wider sound, harmonies, etc. But some songs are just one take, like Pieces of Light w/ @DimitriVangelis & @wymanofficial. Just depends on the vibe you want and what works best with the track.
@Allthingslight0 Last thing - always record & mix vox over unmastered / uncompressed instrumentals if possible, and turn the instrumental track down like 7db when you’re mixing vox so you’re not overcompensating for a slammed track. The stock compressor & limiter in Logic are fine for mastering.
@Allthingslight0 After you can get a nice crisp, compressed, dry vocal sound, try to get your mixes to sound great on the crappiest speakers you can find, laptops, phones, etc. Match the levels of the snare/claps, vocals, and vocal fx in your mixes to those of the songs you love.
@Allthingslight0 Some tips: it’s ok to use lots of compression and EQ, but use minimal or no reverb/delay to start with. Recording room/booth should have no reflections, either with studio foam and/or a mic attachment like the SE Reflexion Filter.
@Allthingslight0 Get the minimal gear: good mic, preamp, compressor (plugins ok but hardware better), headphones (I use Ultrasone). If you get monitors, get super flat ones like Yamaha HS5’s. Then record a ton and try to get your mixes as close to the records you love as you can :)
@Allthingslight0 Thank you! I’ve never thought about teaching before, but I’m open to it. I def believe anyone can become a good mixer with a ton of practice and a good set of headphones.

@Recon2442 @makewoman1@NaturesPoisons Pure nicotine is actually extremely harmful - less than 100mg is lethal if ingested orally. Far, far more dangerous than alcohol on an ounce-to-ounce basis, but obviously it’s consumed in much smaller doses.
@ricardinho33332@TuurDemeester@paulg I think Rothko’s work needs to be viewed in person to understand the demand/valuation. In person it’s a spiritual experience.
