DCP says anyone seeking an MP ticket under the party must pay KSh 250,000 (or KSh 125,000 for youth).
For context, this is what other major parties have charged in Kenya:
ODM - KSh 250,000 for men, KSh 125,000 for women/youth
UDA (2022) - KSh 250,000, KSh 125,000 for youth (later reduced after taking power)
Jubilee - KSh 250,000 to KSh 300,000
DAP-K - KSh 100,000 to KSh 200,000
This is where the debate gets complicated.
Political parties need money to run structures, organize primaries, and sustain operations.
Thatโs why ruling parties like UDA can afford to lower fees more easily because they already enjoy the advantages that come with power.
Opposition and smaller parties often have to rely on nomination fees to raise funds.
But these charges also lock out many qualified ordinary Kenyans from leadership and make politics feel like a game reserved for the wealthy.
Democracy should not be pay-to-play.
Maybe itโs time Kenyans started taking independent candidates more seriously, not just party candidates. That way, leadership becomes more about ideas, integrity, and service, not who can afford the entry fee.
@WaruiJohn2 Yes, I would love for him to be our next manager but I'm afraid that he will not successfully under this sporting directors.
They are the main problem in this club.
Until the day we will get rid of them we will forever go on with this cycle of hiring and sacking managers
