🚨 The Premier League lectures everyone about financial integrity while English football is drowning in debt, owner bailouts, chronic losses and runaway costs.
Now the IFR says the system is increasingly unequal and financially unsustainable.
Yet Manchester City are supposedly the existential threat to English football? 😂
The hypocrisy is staggering. The house is on fire, but the EPL is obsessed with one window.
According to recent allegations, Manchester City have supposedly cheated Financial Fair Play rules.💰
Martin Samuel from the Daily Mail spoke to @IanCheeseman and City legend @OfficialSGoater on tonight's @XSManchester Football Social about why he feels that FFP is flawed #MCFC
Hold City accountable if the evidence justifies it, whatever. But don’t pretend that the existing structure of English football is some sort of perfect meritocracy that City have uniquely corrupted.
It’s almost as though some people believe there is a natural hierarchy in football, with certain clubs entitled to occupy the top positions indefinitely. Anyone who threatens that hierarchy becomes a problem that needs to be dealt with. I find the attitude beyond arrogant tbh
Konsa had two hands round Ballard’s waist from behind. If it was a Sunderland defender doing that in the box I’d have called him a fucking idiot and moved on.
Embarrassing that it’s even still being mentioned.
We all realise Arteta/Arsenal are pushing this issue so much because they want to be allowed to keep turning penalty boxes into scrums, right
...right?
🚨🔥 Mikel Arteta says penalty given to Sunderland is “unacceptable”.
“Look, the first question we have to discuss is that this is NOT ACCEPTABLE at this level.
"It was a beautiful game of football, with two teams and an atmosphere in the stadium that was unbelievable, with Sunderland they are so organised; they are so good in so many phases, they have great players, they created a lot of issues we had to cope with.
"We had to cope with all of that, it was a lot in a really difficult week after Chelsea and Napoli, and on top of that we have to go through what we've done today that in my opinion is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
"I watched it 20 times, and I CANNOT find a way to understand how they even think to give a penalty in that situation, or the way the VAR has to intervene.
"So I don't know what to think, but I'm SAD that we have to discuss in such a beautiful game something at this level that has the gravity of that, because that CHANGES the course of the season and can cost you the championship.
"At this level, with all the work that we put in, this cannot happen. I cannot find an explanation - that's why I'm going to try and find an explanation now.
"I want to be talking about how good we were, how good Sunderland were, and the level of the league and how beautiful this is - we should not be talking about that.
"I cannot find an explanation - that's why I'm going to try and find an explanation now."
It's hard to argue against Kane for the Ballon d'Or IMO. Most goals, domestic treble, deep WC and UCL runs whilst playing a role far more complete than anybody putting up similar numbers. Solves deep build-up, a playmaker in the middle third, scores in the final third. Performance is more impressive than the ridiculous scoring which is something given he scored 73.
🎙️ RLB on this season's mindset:
'They said we would finish midtable in the Championship, we were promoted. They said we would be relegated by Christmas, we finished seventh. We will keep doing things the Sunderland way...'
Let me say this very directly.
Football does not belong to investors. It belongs to the people who fill the stands and who stand on the touchline week in, week out, rain or shine.
The World Cup is not a product. It is the greatest competition in world sport, and it was never anyone's to sell. Dress the deal up however you like. Once you have sold a piece of it, you have sold out.
Football belongs to the fans. It always has, and it always will.
In the last 12 years, Argentina have reached seven major finals of which they have won three. They lost two after extra time and two on penalties. With the passage of time we will realise what an extraordinary achievement this is.
My wonderful Irish TEFL invigilator @MacDonnchada lived in BA for years then moved to Barcelona with his Argentine partner. I recommend reading his thoughts on the impact of the World Cup on Argentina and his experience living in Spain. https://t.co/AAwEJAHji8
Imagine thinking, one of the least controversial footballing figures, a man known (until a month ago) as an extremely humble, quiet introvert, who has only ever done his talking on the pitch, is now the villain of this sport, you’ve all gone mad mate
If you sincerely think that the beautiful, unparalleled career of Lionel Messi, in which he showed at the age of 39 that he is still capable of being the best in the world, will be overshadowed by a 3 week social media frenzy, you need to go outside a lot more.
People are crushing Argentina for how they played yesterday, but this is a tactical reality of football that has existed for decades.
When a team feels physically or technically outmatched, one way to disrupt the opponent’s rhythm is to make the match scrappier—commit tactical fouls, stop transitions, slow the tempo, and force constant restarts. It’s not pretty, but it’s a legitimate part of the sport.
Some of the great teams in history have mastered the “professional foul” and controlling the middle of the pitch this way. You don’t have to like it, but pretending it’s some new phenomenon because Argentina did it yesterday is comical.
Commendable from Messi to drag this side as far as he did I'll be honest. Nice way to bow out if this is his last World Cup. One of the best individual campaigns ever and at 39 but nothing is totally perfect. Spain thoroughly deserving of the trophy.
southgate progressed the team from where it was. Tuchel hasnt progressed the team, and many of the stumbling blocks were entirely his own doing. He's too egotistical and stubborn to change. England has the DNA to be top footballer who control games. Cut tuchel, get Lee Carsley.
