What a gorgeous illustratation

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the 10th day of Climate, my true love gave to me

10 species sprinting

(Think ahead to what regionally native species might thrive on your site 40 years from now, but remember the seedlings have to survive in the climate of today)

[Northwest Natural Resource Group @NNRGforests]

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the ninth day of Climate, my true love gave to me

9 planners pon'dring

(Predictability is a thing of the past. Instead, shoot for resilience and adaptability)

[H/T https://t.co/N9DGwlNGmY for the fantastic illustrations]

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the eighth day of Climate, my true love gave to me

8 mulchers mulching

(When planting, a layer of leaves helps to conserve soil moisture for thirsty seedlings)

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the seventh day of Climate, my true love gave to me

7 loggers thinning

(When there isn’t enough moisture to go ‘round, it helps to spread it among fewer trees)

Thanks https://t.co/N9DGwlNGmY for the comics!

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the sixth day of Climate, my true love gave to me

6 forests aging

(Older forests are more resilient to the stresses of heat and drought)

[Northwest Natural Resource Group @NNRGforests]

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the 5th day of Climate, my true love gave to me

5 balmy months

(Many trees need chilling hours for their life cycle to unfold properly, but climate change raises wintertime low temps)

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the fourth day of Climate, my true love gave to me

4 flaming trees

(Lower soil moisture makes vegetation drier, and increases the risk that wildfires will ignite)

[Northwest Natural Resource Group @NNRGforests]

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the third day of Climate, my true love gave to me

3 heat waves

(As the climate warms, periods of extreme temperatures will become much more common)

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the second day of Climate, my true love gave to me

Too little snow

(Warmer winters will raise snow levels, leaving middle elevations drier much earlier in summer)

[Northwest Natural Resource Group @NNRGforests]

The 12 Days of Climate Adaptation, cont’d:

On the 12th day of Climate, my true love gave to me

12 woods a-wilding

(To hedge your bets in a changing climate, manage for many species and ages. But that’s always made for smart forestry)
