The Ag Appropriations bill released by House Rs includes $ to test restricting the foods #SNAP households can buy. This is misguided for many reasons, but here's the bottom line: People should be able choose the foods that best meet their needs, regardless of how they pay.
The most common barrier to a healthy diet reported by #SNAP participants is the affordability of healthy food. Restricting SNAP purchases won't fix that problem—and the ~$30 billion SNAP cut that House Rs plan to advance in their farm bill markup tomorrow would make it worse.
