This is the roof of a Maltings kiln on a site in Essex that we are valuing for a pension fund. Now redundant, it is an amazing example of a labour intensive technology that we dont see too often.#brewing #Maltings #kiln

This was once the Kiln floor of a Maltings in Essex. Its a fine metal mesh on which the barley was spread and heated from below. The pyramid roof is battened out for a lining that has been removed. #granddesigns #valuation

Saw this massive Avery scale in a former 5 storey Maltings in Essex yesterday. The barley was fed by a conveyor stream into the hopper, then weighed and emptied on to a belt below. Would have to be assembled in situ as stairs too narrow!
