Can annotation uncertainty reveal biology?
Most single-cell annotation methods assign a cell type label. But many cells exist between canonical identities, especially during development, disease, or perturbation.
Instead of treating uncertainty as noise, AnnQ uses it as a quantitative measure of cellular identity deviation.
The question becomes not only "What cell type is this?" but also "How well does it fit known cell identities?"
Weโre hiring in my group at Calico. We build Borzoi and its successorsโdeep learning models that predict how every nucleotide shapes cell-type-specific gene regulationโand apply them to interpret human genetic variation.
