Rwanda: On May 18, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 3 (Reconsider Nonessential Travel) Travel Health Notice for Ebola for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

On May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

On May 15 Level 1 (Practice Usual Precautions) Travel Health Notice for Ebola for Uganda.

Ebola is a rare, severe, and often fatal hemorrhagic fever illness. The virus is transmitted through:

- Direct contact with infected persons or their blood, bodily fluids.
- Direct contact (handling or washing) with infected corpses.
- Contact with objects that have been in contact with infected secretions.

The Travel Advisory for DRC lists Ituri Province as a Level 4 (Do Not Travel) area of increased risk. The U.S. government is extremely limited in its ability to provide emergency assistance. Do not travel to this area for any reason.
