Here are a few things anti-Catholics routinely misrepresent, whether out of ignorance or dishonesty.

“Catholics worship Mary as a goddess!”

False. Catholics do not worship Mary as a goddess. We honor her as a creature uniquely chosen by God to be the Mother of Jesus. Worship, the adoration due to God alone, belongs to God alone.

“Catholics believe they can earn salvation!”

False. Catholics do not believe salvation can be earned. Salvation is the free gift of God’s grace, and we are called to respond to that grace with faith working through obedience.

“Catholics believe the Pope is sinless and never makes mistakes!”

False. Catholics do not believe the Pope is sinless or incapable of error. We believe papal infallibility applies only under very specific conditions when definitively teaching on faith and morals. Not to everything a pope says or does is infallible.

If you are sincerely interested in the truth, simply ask us questions. As Catholics, we are more than happy to explain exactly what we believe.
