Light green insects — my favorite color captured in natures favorite color, with your favorite larva in the middle. We humans can only see a narrow slice of the wavelength of light, from infrared to ultraviolet. Right in the middle of our visible range lies the wavelength we are most sensitive to: approximately 550 nanometers. That specific point of peak sensitivity corresponds to a fresh, bright green — the very hue that surrounds us in forests, meadows, and gardens.

No wonder a simple walk in nature feels so restorative. Our eyes are literally tuned to drink in that vibrant green.
